An Operation Theatre (OT) Technician, also known as a Surgical Technologist or Operating Room Technician, plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the operation theatre and providing support during surgical procedures. Their duties and responsibilities may vary slightly depending on the healthcare facility, but generally include the following:

 

1. Preparation of the Operating Room:

   – Set up and prepare the operating room with all necessary surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.

   – Ensure that the operating room is sterile and ready for surgical procedures.

   – Verify that all equipment, such as lights, monitors, and anesthesia machines, is in working order.

 

2. Assistance to Surgical Team:

   – Assist surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses during surgical procedures.

   – Hand instruments and supplies to the surgical team as needed.

   – Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide prompt assistance.

 

3. Sterilization of Instruments:

   – Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.

   – Ensure that all instruments are properly cleaned, disinfected, and ready for use.

   – Follow strict protocols for infection control and prevention.

 

4. Patient Preparation:

   – Assist in positioning and preparing patients for surgery.
